I am a student of architectural history and of the built environment generally. My work focuses on discourses that continue from the past to the present, and I try to pose historical questions that help architects, historians, and students navigate present challenges. I have published three solo-authored books, four edited books and numerous articles, long and short form. I studied architecture at the University of Pennsylvania (Bachelor of Arts, 1985), the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University (Master of Architecture, 1990), and the City University of New York Graduate Center (Ph.D. Art History, 2005). I work with doctoral students in fields adjacent or related to my own, and welcome those interested in pursuing a PhD to get in touch. I am the Editor of the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians for 2026 & 2027, and I currently direct the PhD Program in Architecture, Landscape, and Design, at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto where I am a Professor of Architectural History.
